Vehicle Thefts

Good afternoon all,

Unfortunately, North West Leicestershire as a whole is experiencing an increase in vehicle thefts and on the Forest beat we have seen these occur in Measham and Moira.  The thieves are targeting high performance cars such as the Golf Type R and similar.  The thieves are particularly targeting keyless ignition models.  They will come onto the driveway and hold a scanning device which can intercept the code from your fob and enable them to access and start the car.  Thefts can happen very quickly sometimes in less than 30 seconds.

To help reduce the risk of falling victim to this type of crime do not leave your key fob near to your front door, keep it at the other end of your house.  If you are able to buy a faraday pouch to keep them in then this helps even more.  Police do sometimes have a limited stock of these to dispense but unfortunately we have run out at this time.  They can be bought relatively cheaply from most online retailers.
